With residency off to a start for all graduates, the 2017 Residency Match proved to be among the most competitive in the history of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMs).

A total of 35,969 NRMP applicants competed for a total of 28,849 PGY-1 and PGY-2 residency positions. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) experienced a match rate of approximately ~55%.
